Settling For Less?

Last week, one of my coaching clients reminded me of a fundamental truth. You get what you settle for.

The questionnaire she filled in before our coaching session had a line “Sometimes I feel like I have settled for very little”.
As I delved deeper, I discovered what she meant and it made a lot of sense. As I reflected on her situation, it mirrored mine in other areas of my life.

Don’t ask me what they are because that’s a story for another day. But this is what I know. Where I have asked for much, I have either received that or something closer to that figure a good number of times. Where I have settled for little, that’s what I got in the end.
If the world is like an ocean as the old analogy alludes, then, it depends on the tools you choose. You can go with a spoon or a bucket.
The ocean doesn’t care. But you should care whether the tool in your hands will enable you to scoop what you think you are worth.

How to get more
It all depends on what you are willing to settle for. A little or a lot? This is a question you should pay attention to.
If you are still reading, this tells me that you want to settle for more. How can you go about this?

Ask. As simple as it sounds, usually that’s what it takes. You will never know what the other party is willing to give you until you ask.

You deserve better
Secondly, expect to get more. Just watch little children and they will teach you the art of wanting more. Finally, always remind yourself that you deserve better.
