9 Essential Qualities and Practices I Wish for My Daughters to Lead a Successful Life

I have two daughters, aged 9 and 6. My coach once told me that my job as a parent is to ensure my children become better than me. I embrace this challenge wholeheartedly. Here are nine qualities and practices I am dedicated to helping them master:

Greet People

My father instilled in me the importance of greeting elders. I want to enhance this by teaching my children to greet as many people as possible. My 6-year-old now eagerly attempts to greet everyone, including people in passing cars.

Confidence, Self-Esteem, and Self-Love

I strive to ensure they believe in and love themselves, regardless of the circumstances. Building a strong foundation of self-worth is essential for their happiness and success.

Forgiving Self and Others

Each night, I advise them to forgive themselves and others for anything that didn’t go right during the day. This practice helps them sleep better and wake up with a positive mindset.

Courage

I hope they develop more courage than I have. I want them to boldly pursue their dreams and desires without hesitation.

Belief in God

I continuously remind them of the importance of having faith in God, our creator, provider, and protector. Truthfulness is paramount because, as Garett J. White said, “Where truth is, God is. And where God is, transformation is possible.”

Gratitude

I want them to practice gratitude for both the big and small things in life. Being thankful cultivates a positive outlook and appreciation for all that they have.

Public Speaking

I recently started taking them to events where I am a speaker. I give each of them a chance to share their personal lessons for one minute. This practice helps them build confidence and communication skills.

Anything is Possible

Our mantra is, “If you focus on something, believe in yourself, and do not give up, then anything is possible, and your dreams can come true.” I want them to internalize this belief.

Excellence

I encourage them to aim high and do their very best in academics and life in general. Striving for excellence in all they do will set them on a path to success.

By God’s grace, if they practice these qualities, their chances of surpassing me are very high. I am already incredibly proud of them and their growth.
